Maria "Mary" L. Fernandez, 80 of El Paso, was called to be with the Lord Saturday, May 13th, 2017 while surrounded by her children and family. Mary was a longtime resident of El Paso, TX and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 1955. She retired from the United Stated Government Civil Service after many years. After her retirement, she worked with the YWCA afterschool program for children. Her hobbies included being a member of the Lady's Catholic Bible Study Group, Gardening, arts and crafts and spending time with her immediate and extended...

Maria "Mary" L. Fernandez, 80 of El Paso, was called to be with the Lord Saturday, May 13th, 2017 while surrounded by her children and family. Mary was a longtime resident of El Paso, TX and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 1955. She retired from the United Stated Government Civil Service after many years. After her retirement, she worked with the YWCA afterschool program for children. Her hobbies included being a member of the Lady's Catholic Bible Study Group, Gardening, arts and crafts and spending time with her immediate and extended family. She was a woman of faith and the heart of the Fernandez family. She cared and always wanted the best for everyone, especially for children in need. Throughout her life, she maintained a simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. The legacy that she leaves behind will live on through her children. Mary is proceeded in death by her parents Pedro L. & Patricia G. Rodriguez, sisters Gloria Martinez, Francisca Rodriguez and Olga Sanchez. She is survived by her sisters Guadalupe Salas, Consuelo Ruedas and Emma Gonzalez, all from El Paso. Mary is survived by her loving children Apolinar Fernandez Jr. Terry Fernandez - Olivarez and husband Roberto Olivarez, Grace ( Fernandez) Katzer and husband Michael T. Katzer. Guillermo "Memo" Fernandez, George Fernandez and wife Grace Aldana- Fernandez and Cristobal "Chris' R. Fernandez. She is also survived by her 10 grand-children and 1 great grand-child. Pallbearers included her son, Paul, Memo, George and Chris Fernandez and her grandsons William and Nicholas Fernandez. Honorary Pallbearers include Michael Katzer and Roberto Olivarez. Visitation will be at 6:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 18th at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 N. Zaragoza Rd. Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 pm Friday, May19th, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1700 George Dieter Dr. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery 12400 Montana Ave.
